September 2017 will mark the 25th anniversary of the first worship service at Good Shepherd Church and the beginning of the ministry of Pastor Bill Haygood and his wife Lesly. They came to plant a church that would serve not just the Fairfield community, but the developing communities that would grow up around the church’s location. In the intervening 25 years, they have worked together to build and nurture a church family that has partnered with thousands of children, youth, and adults in sharing the love of Jesus Christ with people along the 290 corridor and through missional efforts literally around the world.
While Bill was busy with pastoral ministry, Lesly has served the church as well. Over the years, she has served on staff as Interim Nursery Coordinator, and in many volunteer capacities with children, youth, women’s and adult ministries as well as choir, orchestra, and missions. She has been a Bible Study Fellowship leader and encouraged the establishment of a BSF class at Good Shepherd. Bill and Lesly have been married for 34 years in June of 2017. They have four sons, Preston, Hunter, Caleb, and Samuel, two of whom are out on their own, one who is in college, and the youngest who is still in high school. They met while attending Southwestern University and married just before entering seminary at SMU. They served one appointment at Lakewood UMC for five years before coming to Cypress to found GS. For fun, they enjoy traveling and participating in short term international mission programs. In their spare time they like to get away to Lesly’s parent’s ranch for family get-togethers and R&R. Their favorite sports teams are any that their sons play on, the USC Trojans, the fightin’ Texas Aggies, the Houston Rockets, and the Dallas Cowboys! The Haygoods count it as a delight to share in ministry with each other and with the Good Shepherd Church family. They believe that God has much more in store for their family of faith at Good Shepherd!
